Where is Laugarás Lagoon located?

It's located in the village of Laugarás, along the banks of the Hvítá River, on Iceland's popular Golden Circle route.

What are the operating hours?

Summer hours (June-September):

Lagoon is open daily 10 am-10 pm (last entrance sold at 8:30 pm)

Ylja Restaurant is open daily from 11 am-10:30 pm (last table seating at 9 pm)

Is there an age limit for entry?

Children and young people aged 8–15 are welcome to enjoy our lagoon when accompanied by an adult. Unfortunately, children under the age of 8 are not permitted to enter the lagoon. All ages are welcome to dine at Ylja Restaurant.

What is the water temperature of the lagoon?

The lagoon's water temperature typically ranges between 38–40°C (100–104°F), offering a warm and relaxing experience year-round.

How do I get to Laugarás Lagoon from Reykjavík?

Are there public transportation options to the lagoon?

Buses 72 and 73 travel to Laugarás, but please note that they do not operate on a regular schedule. Our lagoon is easily accessible by car, and several bus companies run daily tours from Reykjavík that include a visit to the lagoon.

Is there parking available on-site?

Parking is available just outside the facility.

How much do the three admission choices cost?

Admission prices are dynamic. Birki ranges from 6.900-9.900, Lerki ISK 9.400-12.600, and Ösp ISK 15.900-18.900. Prices for groups of 15 people or more are from ISK 7.500 per person.

Do I need to book in advance?

Advance bookings are strongly recommended to ensure availability. We have opened bookings on our website and invite you to book your desired date and time slot.

What are the admission packages?

Three packages will be offered: Birki (Standard), Lerki (Premium), and Ösp (Deluxe), each with varying amenities.​ Further information can be found on this link

What does the Birki (Standard) package include?

Unlimited access to the entire outdoor wellness area, access to a changing room with a personal locker and vanity station, plus shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel in the changing room.

What does the Lerki (Premium) package include?

All Birki benefits, plus the use of a towel, and one drink at the swim-up bar.

What does the Ösp (Deluxe) package include?

All Lerki benefits, plus a two-course meal at Ylja Restaurant.

How much do the packages cost?

Individual prices are dynamic, starting from ISK 6,900 for Birki, ISK 9,400 for Lerki, and ISK 15,900 for Ösp. Prices for groups of 15 people or more are ISK 7.500

Is there a time limit for how long I can stay?

There is no time limit, but the lagoon will close 1.5 hours after the last available time slot is sold each day.

Facilities & Accessibility

What facilities are available at the lagoon?

Guests can enjoy a two-story lagoon, a cold pool, two saunas, relaxation spaces, swim-up bars, a secluded grotto, a wondrous waterfall, and an on-site restaurant named Ylja.

Is there luggage storage at Laugarás Lagoon?

Unfortunately, we do not currently offer luggage storage to our guests.

Can guests rent a towel for use at the lagoon?

Our Lerki and Ösp packages include the use of a towel. Guests who choose our Birki package can rent a towel for ISK 1.200. However, guests are also welcome to bring their own if they prefer.

Are towels provided?

Towel usage is included in the Lerki and Ösp packages. For the Birki package, a towel can be rented for ISK 1.200.

Is the lagoon accessible for individuals with disabilities?

The lagoon welcomes guests with disabilities. A private changing room is available for guests with or without an aide, and a wheelchair lift is on-site.

Is the lagoon accessible for wheelchair users?

Laugarás Lagoon is designed to be accessible for wheelchair users. We provide wheelchair-accessible restrooms in the men’s and women’s locker rooms, as well as in our outdoor wellness area. Additionally, there are two private locker rooms for guests with mobility disabilities. Please inform us, with your booking reference number, if you require a private locker room.

Are group dining options available?

Health & Safety

Is the lagoon safe for pregnant guests?

Pregnant guests are welcome at Laugarás Lagoon, but if they have concerns, they should consult with a healthcare professional before visiting.

Do I need to shower before entering the lagoon?

All guests must take a shower without swimwear before entering the lagoon, per Icelandic hygiene regulations.

Is smoking/vaping allowed in the lagoon and the facilities?

Smoking and vaping are not permitted in the lagoon or anywhere on the premises. Designated smoking areas may be available outside the main facilities.

What should I bring for my visit?

Guests are advised to bring swimwear; other amenities will be provided based on the chosen package. Please note that wearing a swimsuit is required in the outdoor wellness area.

Where does the water come from?

The hot water in the lagoon comes from the geothermal area in Laugarás through Bláskógabyggð. It is cooled with glacial water from the river Hvítá, which is filtered and purified before flowing into the lagoon. The water is natural and chlorine-free.

Dining & Restaurant

What dining options are available?

Our signature eatery, Ylja Restaurant, offers a seasonal day menu, an evening menu, and a group menu, featuring ingredients sourced from local farms, fisheries, and geothermal greenhouses. Additionally, we offer a soup and bread board available daily until 17:30. Ösp admission is an ideal option for travelers who would like to dine at Ylja Restaurant.

Who is the chef at Ylja Restaurant?

Renowned Icelandic chef Gísli Matthías Auðunsson, known as Gísli Matt, leads the kitchen. Before joining Laugarás Lagoon’s Ylja Restaurant, he was best known for his SLIPPURINN (2012-2025) restaurant in Vestmannaeyjar.

What is the restaurant's seating capacity?

The restaurant can accommodate up to 80 people indoors. Additionally, there is an outdoor dining space.

Can I purchase food and drinks within the lagoon area?

There are two swim-up bars serving beverages while you relax in the water. There is no food option available for guests while they are entering the lagoon area. The onsite restaurant, Ylja, welcomes guests before or after the lagoon experience. A small grab-and-go section is also available during the day for guests not planning to dine at the restaurant.

Can I host a group event at the lagoon?

Our private room, situated between the lagoon and restaurant, is ideal for dinner parties, casual receptions, conferences, and theatre experiences.
